Ranchester, Wyoming

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 855 people, 312 households, and 236 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,401.6 inhabitants per square mile (541.2/km2). There were 332 housing units at an average density of 544.3 per square mile (210.2/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 90.3% White, 7.3% Native American, 0.8% Asian, 1.1% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.6% of the population.

There were 312 households of which 42.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 24.4% were non-families. 17.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.09.

The median age in the town was 31.7 years. 32.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25.3% were from 25 to 44; 23.6% were from 45 to 64; and 11.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 50.5% male and 49.5% female.

Upton, Wyoming

Upton is located at 44°6′12″N 104°37′33″W / 44.10333°N 104.62583°W / 44.10333; -104.62583 (44.103354, -104.625943).[7] According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.96 square miles (7.67 km2), all of it land.[1]

As of the 2010 United States Census[2] of 2010, there were 1,100 people, 467 households, and 303 families residing in the town. The population density was 371.6 inhabitants per square mile (143.5/km2). There were 539 housing units at an average density of 182.1 per square mile (70.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 95.6% White, 0.2% African American, 1.7% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3% of the population.

There were 467 households of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% were married couples living together, 5.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 35.1% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.88.

Rawlins, Wyoming

Rawlins is a city in Carbon County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 9,259 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Carbon County.[6] It was named for Union General John Aaron Rawlins, who camped in the locality in 1867.[7]

As of the census of 2010, there were 9,259 people, 3,443 households, and 2,206 families residing in the city.[2] The population density was 1,123.7 inhabitants per square mile (433.9/km2). There were 3,960 housing units at an average density of 480.6 per square mile (185.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 84.7% White, 1.1% African American, 1.3% Native American, 1.0% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 9.2% from other races, and 2.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 24.3% of the population.

There were 3,443 households of which 35.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.6% had a male householder with no wife present, and 35.9% were non-families. 29.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.04.

Wapiti Ranger Station

Wapiti Ranger Station is the oldest United States Forest Service ranger station in the United States.[3] The station is located in Shoshone National Forest, Wyoming, and has been used continuously since it was built in 1903. The station was the first forest service ranger station built with federal funding. Constructed with native forest timber, the structure is maintained regularly, with some recent improvements – such as replacing some rotting timber – implemented in 2005.

A location called Wapiti Station is featured in the 2016 game Firewatch, which is set in the Shoshone National Forest. However, its depiction and location within the forest do not resemble Wapiti Ranger Station.

Reliance, Wyoming

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 665 people, 249 households, and 182 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 69.8 people per square mile (26.9/km²). There were 272 housing units at an average density of 28.5/sq mi (11.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.33% White, 0.90% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 3.16% from other races, and 2.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.97% of the population.

There were 249 households out of which 43.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.9% were non-families. 22.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.12.

In the CDP, the population was spread out with 32.8% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females, there were 109.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.3 males.

Wheatland, Wyoming

Before the late 19th century, the area around the future site of Wheatland was a flat, arid landscape with desert-like vegetation. In 1883 local rancher and judge Joseph M. Carey, along with Horace Plunkett, John Hoyt, Morton Post, Francis E. Warren, William Irvine, and Andrew Gilchrist, established the Wyoming Development Company. The company hoped to irrigate in the Wheatland Flats and profit from new development.[7]

By the fall of 1883 an irrigation system was constructed on the Wheatland flats including a 2,380 foot long tunnel to divert water for irrigation into Bluegrass Creek and the first two of the system's canals.[8] The Cheyenne and Northern Railway line reached the Wheatland flats in July, 1887, eventually extending to the Wyoming Central Railway at Wendover. Lots in the town of Wheatland were auctioned in 1894. By 1915 many farms were established in the irrigation district and the population of the flats was 5,277.[7]

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 3,627 people, 1,657 households, and 974 families residing in the town. The population density was 884.6 inhabitants per square mile (341.5/km2). There were 1,879 housing units at an average density of 458.3 per square mile (177.0/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 95.1% White, 0.1% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 2.1% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.4% of the population.

Riverton, Wyoming

The city is an incorporated entity of the state of Wyoming. The community was named Riverton because of the four rivers that meet there.[6] The town was built on land ceded from the Wind River Indian Reservation in 1906, a situation that often makes it subject to jurisdictional claims by the nearby Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes.

A legal ruling on November 7, 2017, by the 10th Circuit Court, ruled again in the EPA reservation boundary dispute. Though the decision was complex, the 10th Circuit Court answered plainly. Riverton is not on the reservation. The 10th Circuit's decision is now official and final after the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals 2017 ruling. The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the decision of the EPA, and held that the land had been ceded in 1905 by an Act of Congress. This ruling ends the dispute, bringing the debate and controversy to an end.[7] On August 21, 2017 a Total Solar Eclipse went over Riverton.

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 10,615 people, 4,252 households, and 2,600 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,076.6 inhabitants per square mile (415.7/km2). There were 4,567 housing units at an average density of 463.2 per square mile (178.8/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 83.5% White, 0.5% African American, 10.4% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.8% from other races, and 3.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.0% of the population.

Wilson, Wyoming

Wilson is a census-designated place (CDP) in Teton County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 1,482 at the 2010 census, up from 1,294 in 2000. It is part of the Jackson, WY–ID Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Wilson was pioneered in 1889 by Elijah Nicholas Wilson, known for having lived with the Shoshone Indian tribe as a boy in the 1850s. He later wrote a book[4] about his experiences, including his time as a rider for the Pony Express. The town was later named in his honor.[5] It sits at the base of Teton Pass, just northwest of Jackson, on State Highway 22.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 23.44 square miles (60.7 km2), of which, 22.96 square miles (59.5 km2) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2) of it (2.05%) is water.

Rock River, Wyoming

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 245 people, 94 households, and 72 families residing in the town. The population density was 105.2 inhabitants per square mile (40.6/km2). There were 126 housing units at an average density of 54.1 per square mile (20.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 91.4% White, 0.8% Native American, 2.4% from other races, and 5.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.0% of the population.

There were 94 households of which 29.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 23.4% were non-families. 21.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 2.97.

The median age in the town was 47.5 years. 24.9% of residents were under the age of 18; 3.6% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 18.8% were from 25 to 44; 37% were from 45 to 64; and 15.5% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 52.2% male and 47.8% female.

Worland, Wyoming

Worland is a city in Washakie County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 5,487 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Washakie County.[6] It is located within the Big Horn Basin and along the Big Horn River in northwestern Wyoming

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.64 square miles (12.02 km2), of which, 4.56 square miles (11.81 km2) is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 km2) is water.[1]

Worland experiences an arid climate (Köppen BWk), but it is one that’s quite contrary to much of the state. Due to the location within the Big Horn Basin, it is protected from severe weather by the surrounding mountains from nearly every direction. This topography results in weather that is quite temperate with dry winters, little rainfall and few storms.[8]
